My favorite beach happens to be home to my favorite beachside restaurant. The aforementioned beach is Sullivan’s Island and the aforementioned restaurant is Poe’s Tavern. The name of the restaurant is somewhat of an “ode” to Edgar Alan Poe. When Poe was 18, he enlisted in the army and was stationed at the end of Sullivan’s Island. One of my favorite parts about my dining experience at Poe’s is the crows (ravens if you will) that sit on the phone wires and watch you eat your meal.
The menu is simple and classic; offering quesadillas, a variety of burgers that can be made with meat or chicken, and my personal favorite for a day by the sea, fish tacos.
Open year round, it doesn’t matter what season it is—when I eat at Poe’s it always a beach day.
